When did you start your radio career?
How did you get into radio?
Serendipity 😀 I met some people in the radio industry for an event (I was a club DJ at that time), they asked if I wanted to try radio, I said sure! I was always open to trying new things, so I gave it a shot. They made me come in for an aircheck (demonstration recording), they liked what they heard, and the rest is history! Started training under the morning show soon after that.
How was your first boardwork?
Nerve-wracking, but the pros (Sonny B and Mighty Mike) were there to guide me and make it a fun experience!
Any memorable thing happen in your rookie year as a jock?
A few things actually like getting to meet and interview international artists and fun out-of-town events, but one that sticks out is when I accidentally dropped the F-bomb on air one morning out of excitement. A big no-no for radio. My manager called me into his office the next day with a “letter” from the KBP sanctioning me for my blunder… he read my list of penalties out loud from several months suspension to paying a ridiculous amount, to not being able to travel, and other things that are too crazy to mention. I was so mortified that what he was saying wasn’t really sinking in and I didn’t notice him trying to hold his laugh in. My morning show team was behind me the whole time. I only realized it was a prank when they all blurted out laughing. Fun times! 😀
Did you have the full support of your family when you started out?
Yes! I’m lucky that They’ve always been supportive of me and my ventures.
When you’re not on air, what kind of music do you listen to aside from the music you play on REPUBLIKA FM1?
Depends on how I’m feeling and what I’m doing at that moment. Like while I’m working out, it’s usually either rap/hip-hop, rock or club music, I know, extreme! While I’m driving or relaxing, some chill-out / vocal house music or even old-school tracks from the 80s to early 2000s.
