When did you start your radio career?
I started my radio career shortly after college, on a whim, totally unexpected in 2010. I had a friend who worked at Mellow 947, and while I was waiting to watch a movie at TriNoMa, she messaged me telling me to come by the radio station and drop off my resume, ASAP. I was hesitant at the time to skip on the movie, but fortunately, I made the right choice to drop everything I was doing and be a radio DJ!
How was your first boardwork?
I had no previous experience doing any kind of media work so my first boardwork was pretty dull. Listening back on it now, I’d tell my Then-Self to lighten up, take a few deep breaths, and smile while I’d talk into the mic.
Any memorable thing happen in your rookie year as a jock?
In my first year or so, I remember the office chair crumbling beneath me while my partner and I were talking on-air. It was tough to keep my composure, but somehow, we did it without laughing too much.
Did you have the full support of your family when you started out?
Yup! My parents would tune in all the time back then, and tell our family friends to do the same!
When you’re not on air, what kind of music do you listen to aside from the music you play on REPUBLIKA FM1?
During work outside of radio, I tend to listen to Japanese hip-hop and R&B. I like the beats and because I can’t really understand what’s being said, I don’t find it too distracting.
